Me and my boyfriend are going from Sweden to Manchester the 13th january for the ManU-Villa game. We are staying at Premier Travel Inn - MEN Arena and I have some questions.
What will be the easiest way for us to get to Old Trafford?
Is there any bars and restaurants nearby?
How far from the city centre is the hotel?
Can you give me some restaurant and bar advise?
Where can we have a beer and get the atmosphere togheter with some local supporters before the game?
Thanks!

Well Angelicaj,

Apart from a taxi (it's only 3.2km), tram from anywhere in the city centre to Old Trafford cricket ground (Altrincham line) is the most popular option. It's a 15 minute walk from there with the crowds. Personally, I'd catch the tram to The Lowry (Eccles line). Here you can see some of the city's finest tourist attractions (The Lowry Art Gallery and Imperial War Museum) and grab a drink at Lime, The Lowry or in the Lowry Shopping Centre. It's only a 10 minute walk to the stadium from here across the footbridge (just follow the crowds). It's also the best way back as it's less crowded than the Old Trafford metro station and allows you to grab a drink or food whilst you wait.

There's loads of pubs and bars around Old Trafford however for restaurants, The Lowry is your best bet. Quite a few to choose from, including the superb restaurant in The Lowry itself.
As for near the hotel, check out bars near the MEN Arena. Deansgate and The Printworks are the areas next to the hotel.

It's in the city centre, just opposite the Cathedral.

Check out our Best bars in Manchester and our best restaurants in Manchester. Dress code in Manchester is smart and casual, so it's advisable to leave your United scarves back at the hotel after the game.

Apart from the pubs around the stadium, nearly all the pubs in the city centre are 'United pubs' and on match days you'll find United fans in all of them. The one's especially popular with local reds are The White Lion and Cask in Castlefield or The Peveril Of The Peak, where Eric Cantona used to drink. You can always get a good sing-song in the huge Wetherspoons at Piccadilly Gardens or The Bishops Blaize, outside the stadium.

Hopefully your fellow countryman, Henrik Larsson, will provide you with an even better visit to Manchester with a goal or two!
