My boyfriend is coming for a visit at the eekend. He had only been t manchester a few times and i would like to take him to a nice restaurant on the saturday for his birthday, but the choice is immense. He is Irish and can eat a lot. He also loves his desserts. Any ideas? There are too many to choose from!!

There's a few restaurants in town to choose from. You should check out our guide to the best restaurants in Manchester first, however the following are highly recommended for their desserts...

Lounge 10 - very romantic setting and arguably the best desserts in town.

The V&A Restaurant at the posh Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel offer some of the finest desserts we've tasted - the cheesecake is the finest I've ever had.

Choice - ideal for an introduction to local cuisine given a fine dining nod and some wonderful (and huge) desserts.

Restaurant, Bar & Grill - chocolate fudge pudding with pistachio ice cream highly recommended by both ourselves and The Good Food Guide 2007

River Restaurant at The Lowry - ideal for those with a very sweet tooth

If you can get a table (weekends are normally booked up weeks in advance) you could opt for the best restaurant in Manchester, the Michelin starred

Juniper, just an 18 minute tram ride from the city centre. Portions are smaller but obviously more arty and memorable.

If you're driving you should also definitely take a trip out to The Bay Horse in Fence, just a 40 minute drive north of the city centre - a wonderful gastro pub set in beautiful countryside at the foot of Pendle Hill - it makes a great day out and the food is amongst the best in the North West, with some of the best desserts we've had the pleasure of reviewing.

Let us know which one you visit by submitting a review.

Enjoy the calories
Neil
