Hi, I'm going out with a couple of mates in Deansgate Lock a week Saturday and wondered whether we would get away with wearing trainers, or would we get told to smarten up? Will it be the same throughout Manchester?

George, London

Hi George,

Personally I always think it is better to over dress than under dress. Why risk the whole trainers look incase you get turned away. The student area on Oxford Rd is very casual whereas Deansgate Locks is more formal. Some clubs in Manchester even state on their websites brands you can't wear, and we are not just talking the scallie brands either, we are talking some ok fashion labels.

I would suggest you all wear smart jeans, casual shoes, not trainers and either a shirt or t-shirt (a decent t-shirt). I always wear shirts as some places in England can be arsy if you don't have a collar.

Have a crackin' night in the city!
